Griever is a four piece band from Escondido, California who formed in 2011.  Griever feature former members of Lewd Acts, so by going on that alone you know you're in for something truly special.  Griever play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of post hardcore, sludge, noise rock, and stoner rock within their sound.  Griever's sound is drony, sometimes sludgy, sometimes melodic, and at times really difficult to describe.  The best comparison I can come up with is that Griever mix up the melodic power/stoner metal sounds of Torche with the sludgy post metal stylings of bands like Sweet Cobra.  Since their inception in 2011, Griever have two releases under their belts that include a four song 10" titled Inferior, which was released back in 2011 and a 3-way split LP with VYGR and At Our Heels released in January of 2013.  Our Love Is Different is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via Vitriol records on February 24th, 2015.  On their latest full-length, Griever offer up nine new songs of brilliantly executed post hardcore, sludge, noise rock, and stoner rock.  Overall, Griever have absolutely nailed it on their latest LP and have offered up an amazing album that's an absolute must listen for fans of Torche, Ages, and Sweet Cobra.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Years Of Abuse is a brand new 3-piece nihilistic, grind/hardcore band from Melbourne, Australia. Not much more is known about them at this time, but their Facebook states that shows are being announced soon. As far as music goes, I'm pretty blown away. This is about as good as a debut gets and finding things like this is one of the best things about doing this blog. This is just great, uptempo hardcore with drums going a million miles an hour, angry vocals and perfect guitar tone/production. Grab this immediately and pray for more soon.

Death Engine is a four piece band from Lorient, France who formed in May of 2012.  Death Engine play an ambitious and forward thinking style of music that borrows from several sub genres of underground music.  Death Engine's style of forward-thinking music draws inspiration from a variety of sources that include post hardcore, sludge, post metal, and noise rock.  Musically, Death Engine can be said to be influenced by bands such as Eyehategod, Buzzoven, Botch, Breather Resist, Celeste, and Neurosis.  With that being said, these influences should only be used as a starting point of reference when describing Death Engine's sound because their style is truly unique and impossible to ignore.  Something else that really grabs my attention with Death Engine's latest album is that there is a layered nuance to the music that makes the band heavy as fuck and yet somehow beautiful.  There's even a hint of shoegaze thrown in with some of these songs, which only confounds me even more.  The seven tracks found on Mud make for a brutal and ambtious as fuck listen that won't be leaving your stereo any time soon.  Overall, Mud makes for an amazing listen and Death Engine is an absolute must listen for fans of Eyehategood, Neurosis, Celeste, and Amen Ra.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!  Mud was released via Throatruiner records on March 2nd, 2015.

Youth Funeral is a four piece band from New Hampshire and Massachusetts who formed in early 2013 from the looks of things.  Youth Funeral play a dynamic, tense, and discordant as fuck sounding style of hardcore, punk, and screamo.  Musically, Youth Funeral can be said to be influenced by bands such as The Saddest Landscape, In First Person, Ampere, Saetia, and You And I.  Since their inception in 2012, Youth Funeral have three releases under their belts that include a five song EP titled Symptom Of Time in September of 2013, a split 7" with Scowler in October of 2014, and their latest six song EP titled See You When I See You, which was released in January of 2015.  On See You When I See You, Youth Funeral offer up six tracks of chaotic and volatile hardcore, punk, and screamo that's an absolute must listen for fans of Black Kites, Weak Teeth, and My Fictions.  Overall, See You When I See Yous is a killer EP and should not be missed.  See You When I See You was released via Twelve Gauge records on January 25th, 2015.  These six songs were recorded, mixed, and mastered by Will Killingsworth at Dead Air Studios, so by going on that alone, you know this is a killer EP.

Maths are a three piece hardcore, punk, and screamo band from the United Kingdom who formed in 2006.  Maths play a tense, urgent, and volatile as fuck sounding style of hardcore, punk, and scremo.  The thing that really sets Maths apart from other bands playing this genre of music is their depth.  Maths draw inspiration from several sub genres of screamo, including emoviolence, classic early 2000's screamo, as well as more traditional forms of modern hardcore.  Maths aren't afraid to embrace the darker spectrum of modern hardcore and add a bit of a metallic crust vibe, which really keeps the band from being pigeonholed one way or the other.  Musically, Maths can be said to be influenced by bands such as Orchid, Raein, and Funeral Diner as well as more modern influences such as Loma Prieta, Todos Caeran, and Totem Skin.  Since their inception in 2006, Maths have released several amazing albums that include a fourteen track album titled MMVII in 2008, a twelve track album titled Descent in 2009, a four track EP titled Ascent in 2011, a split LP with Throats in 2013, and a thirteen track cassette titled My Porthole Sees No Ocean in August of 2014.  The Fires Are Courting The Sea is the band's latest six song EP.  The Fires Are Courting The Sea features six new tracks of urgent and volatile, and tense hardcore, punk, and screamo.  The Fires Courting The Sea is a phenomenal 12" that should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!  The Fires Are Courting The Sea was released via Tangled Talk records as a single sided 12" on March 23rd, 2015.

AVHATH / DISFARE - Split Cassette - First Listen + Interview

Avhath and Disfare are both new bands emerging from the capital city of Jakarta, Indonesia. Both bands formed in early 2013, Disfare playing fastcore/powerviolence while Avhath plays more of a black metal punk. Now they are joining forces for a mini tour and a split tape limited to 100 white cassettes on George Rekords, scheduled to be released on Record Store Day, April 18 2015.

Heiress is a five piece band from Seattle, Washington who formed in 2006.  Heiress formed from the ashes of several notable bands such as Himsa, Undertow, and Shift.  Heiress play a claustrophobic, oppressive, and suffocatingly heavy style of post hardcore, noise rock, and sludge.  Since their inception in 2006, Heiress have several releases under their belts, which include a five song self-titled EP released in May of 2009, a split 7" with NRRWS in 2010, a two song 7" titled Naysayer/Just Throats in May 2012, and a ten song LP titled Early Frost on Deathwish Records in August of 2013.  Of Great Sorrow is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via The Mylene on January 18th, 2015.  On Of Great Sorrow, Heiress offer up ten more tracks of oppressive and calculatingly brutal modern post hardcore, noise rock, and sludge.  Overall, Of Great Sorrow is a phenomenal album and will definitely be making my end of the year best of lists for 2015.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Haust is a five piece band from Oslo, Norway who formed in 2009 from the looks of things.  Haust play a blown-out, dirty, gritty, and raw style of punk and noise rock.  Haust give nods to bands such as Brain Bombs, The Stooges, Jesus Lizard, Shellac, Big Black, The Cows, Hammerhead, and Drive Like Jehu in their sound.  Haust features muddy, fuzzy, and distorted guitar work.  Rhythmic basslines and pummeling drum beats add depth to the band's sound.  Rounding out the band's sound are scathing and venomous vocals that can easily fit in primitive death metal style bands.  I know this sounds like it wouldn't work on paper, but Haust somehow makes the vocal delivery work with the band's overall sound.  Bodies is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via Tiger and Fysisk Format records on March 4th, 2015.  On their latest LP, Haust offer up ten tracks of blown-out, self-destructive, and gritty as fuck sounding punk and noise rock.  Overall, Bodies is a killer album and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Here's a split recording between BOROUGHS and FALTER that came out March 27 on Hydrogen Man Records. Falter is from Milwaukee, WI and play the type of pissed off hardcore punk that you would expect to find on this blog. And Boroughs, from Philadelphia, PA, sound even more pissed off and a little more chaotic, adding aspects of grind and powerviolence to their side of the split. So it's a win/win as far as I'm concerned. The record is limited to 300 on black vinyl with hand numbered jackets and you can order it at the Hydrogen Man Records Bandcamp page.
