GHOSTLIMB - Difficult Loves (2016)

GENRE: Hardcore Punk, Metal, Thrash
FFO: Burning Love, Trainwreck, Comadre

Ghostlimb formed sometime in 2005 as a two-piece guitar and drum hardcore band and became a proper 3-piece in 2006. With an emphasis on politics, history, and a meager grasp of various theories, Ghostlimb has stayed on a track of pushing these themes that are crucially realized in the trilogy of records “Infrastructure” (2011), “Confluence” (2012), and “Difficult Loves” (2016). Overall, if you are a fan of Super short, super fast, and super pissed off hardcore, then this is for  you.

(U.S.) Graf Orlock-Crime Traveler LP (2016)

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Grindcore

Label: Vitriol Records
Tracks: 10

Fuck yeah.  Here's the latest installment from Los Angeles, CA's Graf Orlock.  Most readers of this blog are probably familiar with these dudes, so I keep this description relatively short.  Graf Orlock is a four piece band from LA who formed in 2003.  Graf Orlock play a mind numbing, chaotic, and brutal as fuck sounding style of hardcore, punk, and grindcore. Since their inception in 2003, Graf Orlock have released a self-titled EP in 2004, an EP titled Corpserate Greed in 2004, a split with Hurry Up And Kill Yourself in 2004, a split with Greyskull in 2005, an album titled Destination Time Yesterday on 2006, an EP titled Destination Time Tomorrow in 2007, an LP titled Destination Time Today in 2009, an EP titled Doombox in 2011, and a 7" titled Los Angeles in 2012.  Crime Traveler is Graf Orlock's latest full-length LP, which is slated for release via Vitriol records on February 5th, 2016. On Crime Traveler, Graf Orlock offer up ten new tracks of killer hardcore, punk, and grindcore peppered with brilliant sound samples that the band has become known for.  Overall, Crime Traveler is Graf Orlock's best and most cohesive album to day.  Seriously, Crime Traveler is completely off the chain.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Tempest-Passages 12" (2012)

Country: Canada
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Crust, Metal
Label: Vitriol/React With Protest Records
Tracks: 7
Length: 24.0'

Press Note: Tempest is from Vancouver, BC. This band has been around for some time, aurally punishing people through the 2005 advent of too many fucking amps. But contrary to most, they are good. They play a heavy and chaotic hardcore that Roger still claims “doesn’t sound German,” but after this last summer where they had a rousingly successful European tour, it would suggest i was correct. If you are into depressed and blackened European hardcore with a nice metal patina, then this is for you my ridiculous friend. Prepare to traverse a loud atmospheric and elemental tonality, fueled by a lot of things including a love of throwing up next to the van (Steve) on the 2010 Ghostlimb/Tempest Canadian tour.

*I don't think this band is active any longer, but felt like throwing this review up on this site because Tempest were amazing.  The band's discography includes their Passages LP, which was released via Vitriol and React With Protest records in June of 2012 as well as a two song 7" titled Solace, which was released via Vitriol records in April of 2012.  Overall, Tempest offer up seven tracks of phenomenal hardcore, punk, crust, and metal.  Passages is an amazing album that still kicks ass to this day.  Enjoy!

(U.S.) Griever-Our Love Is Different LP (2015)

Country: USA
Genre: Post Hardcore, Sludge, Noise Rock, Stoner Rock
Label: Vitriol
Tracks: 9
Length: 38.0'

Griever is a four piece band from Escondido, California who formed in 2011.  Griever feature former members of Lewd Acts, so by going on that alone you know you're in for something truly special.  Griever play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of post hardcore, sludge, noise rock, and stoner rock within their sound.  Griever's sound is drony, sometimes sludgy, sometimes melodic, and at times really difficult to describe.  The best comparison I can come up with is that Griever mix up the melodic power/stoner metal sounds of Torche with the sludgy post metal stylings of bands like Sweet Cobra.  Since their inception in 2011, Griever have two releases under their belts that include a four song 10" titled Inferior, which was released back in 2011 and a 3-way split LP with VYGR and At Our Heels released in January of 2013.  Our Love Is Different is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via Vitriol records on February 24th, 2015.  On their latest full-length, Griever offer up nine new songs of brilliantly executed post hardcore, sludge, noise rock, and stoner rock.  Overall, Griever have absolutely nailed it on their latest LP and have offered up an amazing album that's an absolute must listen for fans of Torche, Ages, and Sweet Cobra.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!
