UNFLESHING - Violent Reason

 

Well, Ⓐ in the chat must know me pretty well, he suggested this band to me a month or so ago, and he couldn't have been more right. This is pretty fucking perfect. Unfleshing is the band and they hail from St. Louis, MO. The wife just so happens to have some family in St. Louis, and I've been noticing this band playing some shows down there, so I think I'll be checking them out in person, sooner or later. 

This is their debut and like I said, just about perfect. Amazing crusty production, a smothering wall of blackened guitars, bass & drums, and strained vocals that blend everything together. This just totally reminds me of The Secret, which to me is rare and hallowed ground. But you will also undoubtedly like this if you are into Harrowed, Young And In The Way, Moral Void, Cult Leader etc. 

This isn't a free release on Bandcamp, but it's well worth your money if you want to grab the CD or Cassette. But it's also on Spotify of course, and probably wherever else you get your music. Give them a follow on Instagram or Facebook if you are into that. Enjoy this shit.

Splitter is a 4-piece that has been around since 2017 and this is their first full length release. They are German so of course they have amazingly dark & crusty production. The album is broken up my moody instrumentals which makes for an interesting listen. Overall, it's super dark and angry, I really like this.

Jesus Christ I don't think I even know how to write a record review anymore but I will try since this comes out today from friends of the blog, Sore Ear Collective. I'm talking of course about the debut Drowse LP, Dance In The Decay. Drowse is a 4-piece band from Philadelphia who have been putting out music ever since their demo cassette in 2014, and you can find a few more tapes and 7-Inches of theirs out there if you're lucky. But if you want this new LP, you had better act quick because it's limited to just 100 copies. Musically, Drowse will give you a moody punch right in the mouth, but they bring the hooks as well as the fury, and you'll keep coming back for more. Dance In The Decay never lets up. The production is loud as fuck and they've nailed the minute-and-a-half punk song thing all while bringing a frantic darkness that is missing from all other minute-and-a-half punk songs. I ripped through this record and immediately started it again, and again. If you like bands like Obliterations, Centuries, Bl'ast!, Total Abuse, Funeral Chic or Moral Void, I think you will dig Drowse. Purchase above & click below to listen in full on Spotify, enjoy!

"Describing a band’s musical approach as 'straightforward' sounds similar to saying a person has a 'good personality', or like damning it with faint praise. Not Iron Gag, though. The New England-based quartet’s whole approach paints them as one of those why-go-around-when-you-can-plow-straight-through bands. Kind of like the Juggernaut, the virtually unstoppable X-Men villain, and likely just as fond of humanity.

The name Iron Gag alone radiates hostility. The music feels assaultive. Their debut long-player 'Malingering' sounds like Steve Albini losing his shit and spending two weeks feverishly pounding away on a manual typewriter in some off-the-grid manifesto shack. Imagine 'My Black Ass' from Shellac’s 'At Action Park', but with hair-trigger emotional volatility and considerably more abrasion - those are the album’s mellower moments. When they switch to grind mode on tracks like 'Trash Lungs' and the sardonic 'Sit and Spin', they take on a rapturously unsettling belligerence." ---
 

Amazing dark, metallic Hardcore from this relatively new outfit based in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. According to their facebook page, influences are coming from bands like Botch, Cursed, Neurosis, Baptists, The Hope Conspiracy, Outbreak and Breach, just to name a few. Started in 2014, Iron Gag released a 4-Track Cassette through Friend Catcher in 2015 and a 2-Track Demo in 2016. 'Malingering' is their debut full-length and was released on february 26. The only way to purchase a cassette is at Iron Gag's live shows. Vinyls will be released later this year through Crage Records.

JUSTINHATE - Morrow (2017)

This album from Copenhagen, Denmark's JUSTINHATE came out in the middle of last year, but it's new to me and I didn't see it ever get posted here. I'm really loving this. Ten tracks of epic Dark, Metallic Hardcore. Check this out if you are a fan of Hierophant, Totem Skin or Red Apollo.

DESZCZ - III (2018)

Deszcz is a Antifascist, Vegetarian, Neocrust / Dark Hardcore band from Poznań, Poland. Musically they can be compared to Geraniüm, Dark Circles, Finisterre & Ekkaia. This new 7-track album is a whirlwind of frantic crust and I've been loving every minute of it. If you are a fan of any of these bands or this genre, you will definitely enjoy this one.

FINAL CRISIS - Evil. Has. Won. (2017)

Here is a killer second release from Atlanta, Georgia's Final Crisis. It's 9 tracks and 25 minutes of punishing, desperate-sounding Blackened Metallic Hardcore. I posted about their debut cassette earlier last year and I mentioned that fans of Negative Standards would like them. The same still holds true today. I love this new release and I'm glad they are still putting out music. A cassette for this new release will be out eventually, if you are into that kind of thing.
