Here's a killer split LP featuring new material from Philly's Hirs and
Baton Rogue LA's Thou. HIRS is a Philadelphia, PA based band who formed
in 2011, from the looks
of things. HIRS play a scrappy, dirty, and frenetic style of music
that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, and noise rock within
their sound. As far as musical influences go, HIRS can be loosely
compared to a mix of bands such as PG. 99, American Nightmare or Swing
Kids
channeled through the noise rock stylings of Fight Amp or Whores. Since
forming in 2011, HIRS have released a split 7" with Toxic Womb, a 100
song LP titled The First 100 Songs in October of 2012, a 24 song LP
titled L11'VE From Motel Hell in October of 2012, a 10 song EP titled
REMXXXES in January of 2013, a split with Water Torture in March of
2013, a split with Slothspring in October of 2014, a split with PEEPLE
WATCHING in December of 2014, a six EP titled The Sexxxy Flexi in
February of 2014, a 101 song LP titled The Second 100 songs in April of
2015, a ten song EP titled Build Your Own Bro Smasher Sountrack in April
of 2016, contributed three songs to the Every Day Is Trans Day Of
Vengeance Day in April of 2016, a split with LIFES in December of 2016, a
three song EP titled MAGICal/WANDerful in February of 2017, a split
with Romantic States in May of 2017, a five song EP titled You Can't
Kill Us in October of 2017, a ten song EP titled How To Stop Street
Harassment in November of 2017, and a 20 song LP titled Friends. Lovers,
Favorites in April of 2018. This is the band's latest split LP, which
was released via Get Better records on April 20th, 2018. On their side
of the split, Hirs offer up seven tracks of visceral, grindy, and brutal
as fuck sounding hardcore, punk, and noise rock. Thou is a five piece
band from Baton Rouge, Louisiana who formed in
2005. Thou play a raw, oppressive and heavy as fuck style of music that
incorporates elements of metal, doom, and sludge within their sound.
Since forming in 2005, Thou have released full-length LP titled Tyrant
in September of 2007, a full-length LP titled Peasant in November of
2008, a full-length LP titled Summit in September of 2010, a
full-length LP titled Heathen in May of 2014, a ten song EP titled
The House Primordial in May of 2018, and an eight song 12" titled
Inconsolable in May of 2018, and a full-length LP titled Magus in August
of 2018. In addition to their
full-length LP's Thou have released a prolific amount of split LPs, EPs,
7"s and compilation tracks in addition to their solo output. Thou have
done splits with The Body, Black September, Leech, Haarp, Salome,
Kowloon Walled City, Moloch, Great Falls, The City Is The Tower, Human
Intruder, Mohoram Atta, Hell, and Barghest. Thou has been one of
my favorite doom/sludge bands since at least 2007 and this band is
showing absolutely no signs of slowing down. On their side of the
split, Thou offer up six tracks of raw, filthy, oppressive, and heavy
as fuck sounding metal, doom, and sludge. Overall, this split makes for
an amazing listen and definitely should not be missed. Highly
