SARGEIST + WAYFARER + ORDEALS @ SAINT VITUS BAR

SARGEIST (TOP) WAYFARER (MIDDLE) ORDEALS (BOTTOM)

Hey guys, dropping some photos from my recent show excursions. Playing a little catch up here from earlier in July. I got to drop in on Sargeist, Wayfarer and Ordeals playing at Brooklyn Bazaar. Sargeist once again proves the rule of, "if you don't really know the band, but they aren't from the US, go see them." I have found that rule quite handy to operate from lately. Sargeist did not disappoint in the least, they are ritualistic cult black metal at its finest. Really, the only band I knew going in was Wayfarer. I have spent a lot of time this year listening to their new record. They are another band from the Denver scene that seems to do no wrong right now. If you haven't listened to them, definitely give them a shot. They do a sort of USBM mixed with Western movie score vibe. Ordeals opened the evening up with their highly aggressive brand of USBM, setting the stage quite well for both Wayfarer and Sargeist. Despite all three bands having similar roots in their sound, it was quite welcome to see that they all could rise above the genre standards to have their own unique voices.

THE BODY+ BIG | BRAVE + LINGUA IGNOTA @ SAINT VITUS

Hope you guys enjoy a little peek into a fantastic evening at Saint Vitus from three tremendous and diverse acts. I have been really into The Body's newest record, along with their collaboration with Uniform, so getting to see them was a real treat. The Body had noise artist Limbs Bin perform alongside them as their third member for the evening. Big | Brave are really great to watch; all three members are wildly locked into each other. I had seen them open for Sunn O))) a little while back, so seeing them again was really a great way to set the stage for The Body. Lingua Ignota... what a stellar performance. She performs completely solo in the middle of the floor. Her voice is absolutely astonishing and I think she left everyone in the room shocked by how powerful of a show she put on.

Doing a little catch up on my end, more to come. Always feel free to follow on Instagram to see shots pop up a little sooner.

AMENRA + STATIQBLOOM @ SAINT VITUS BAR

I scored a last minute ticket to see Amenra play one of their two shows at Saint Vitus. Amenra played a couple of quick shows here in Brooklyn before heading out west to do a repeat of the tour I caught them on last year with Converge and Neurosis (well, caught a little of them... I got there late and missed all but two songs). Anyway, I am extremely happy to have caught them for a full set at the always incredible Saint Vitus Bar. Statiqbloom were the openers and I have to say I have been blessed with an incredible run of opening acts lately. DeadWinterMoon and a few others have been feeding my need for some industrial and electronic flavored metal lately; Statiqbloom were an absolute feast of that sound. Incredibly fun to photograph. Amenra were and are as epic as their records would leave you to believe. They are a no nonsense, no banter, engrossed in the moment kind of act. The ebb and flow of their set seemed to draw the whole room in. Hopefully some of you are out on the west coast and can go catch them with Converge and Neurosis! They are not to be missed!

OF FEATHER AND BONE + TOMB MOLD + GUESTS @ SAINT VITUS BAR

2018 has marked an increase in my consumption of Death Metal. Of Feather and Bone along with Tomb Mold seem to be two of the more talked about active bands right now in the genre. The two paired nicely for a great night of brutal metal. Pink Mass and Skullshitter opened the evening. Both Tomb Mold and Of Feather and Bone exceeded all of my expectations for what I would see. I highly recommend catching any of these bands live if you can. They are all worth the price of admission. Hope you enjoy the photos.

R.I.P. @ SAINT VITUS BAR

It was a night of sweaty rock n roll, fuzz, traditional metal and street doom (whatever that means exactly...). Rattlesnake and Mick's Jaguar brought all of the rock n roll swagger and boogie you could hope for. Mick's Jaguar just released their new LP on Riding Easy Records (label home of R.I.P. as well); if their show is any indicator of how the album is it will be a really great listen for fans of Thin Lizzy, AC/DC, and plain fun party rock, plus they have a triple guitar attack. R.I.P. was beyond awesome. They began the evening by announcing themselves as the first true metal show anyone in attendance had ever seen. Whether or not that is true they left everyone at Saint Vitus satisfied customers! Try and see them if you can, who doesn't love a front man with a scythe as his custom mic stand?

YOUNG WIDOWS & EMMA RUTH RUNDLE

Young Widows headlined two shows last week at Saint Vitus celebrating the 10 year anniversary of, arguably, their best record Old Wounds. Coinciding with the tour is the release of their Decayed album, collecting odds and ends spanning their first four LPs. They have been an absolute favorite band of mine since they formed from the ashes of Breather Resist. I had the pleasure of directing their video for King Sol off of Easy Pain. I always make an effort to see them when they come to town. Emma Ruth Rundle opened the show with an intimate, mostly acoustic, set. Young Widows blasted through Old Wounds and a three song encore spanning their other three releases. Hope you enjoy the photos, if you haven't checked out their music before, you absolutely should. If you've never seen them before, do not miss another opportunity!

CALEB SCOFIELD BENEFIT CONCERT.

(PICTURED: CAVE IN, CONVERGE, OLD MAN GLOOM, ZOZOBRA)

At this point I'm sure most are aware of what happened to Caleb Scofield. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend the benefit concert in Boston Wednesday evening. The Cancer Conspiracy, Old Man Gloom, Converge, and Cave In all performed. There was also a surprise encore mini set of Zozobra songs. Guests filled in throughout the evening for the parts that Caleb would play. It was truly a special night. If you enjoy the photos here please check the link above for the expanded gallery.
