If you didn't know, as far as I'm concerned, Harrowed is one of the few "unofficial" bands of this blog. By that, I mean they have been here from the very beginning and really capture the kind of stuff that I am into. It doesn't hurt that everything they put out is virtually flawless. This "single" Dark Collective just came out with 2 songs and as suspected, I am blown away by how good this band is. They are like the 'Slayer' of blackened hardcore, it's banger after banger with them. Mandatory listen.

HARROWED- UNSEEN HANDS
i owe my love of this band to adam and this blog. cursed is long gone. trap them is long gone. harrowed is by far my favorite hardcore band still standing. their 2013 lp "into inferno" was in my top 50 all time list from a couple years ago. 2019s "chaotic nonentity" made my year end list that year. even at only 4 songs, it's highly likely that "unseen hands" tops my list this year. this ep is a ripper. as good as the last album was, these 4 songs are better. this is the best harrowed have ever sounded. the production is clear. the band is tight. theres a touch of ringworm added to the mix in both thrashiness and, ive never noticed it till this ep, a bit of human furnace showing up in the vocals. cursed. trap them. and now ringworm. goddamn that combo of sounds. its a goddamn fantastic 9 minutes.

Harrowed is a band from Kent, United Kingdom who formed in 2012. Harrowed play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, metal, and crust within their sound. Musically, Harrowed can be loosely compared to bands such as Baptists, Cursed, Rise And Fall, Geist, Divider, and other like-minded bands. Since forming in 2012, Harrowed have released a self-titled demo in July of 2012, a nine song LP titled Into Inferno in August of 2013, and a split with Art Of Burning Water in January of 2016. Chaotic Nonentity is the band's latest LP, which was released via SuperFi and Feast Of Tentacles records on October 18th, 2019. On Chaotic Nonentity, Harrowed offer up twelve tracks of killer hardcore, punk, metal, and crust. Overall, Chaotic Nonentity makes for an amazing listen and definitely should not be missed. if you've been coming to this blog for a while then you should know that there are several bands that are kind of a big deal around here. harrowed is one of those bands. I discovered them thanks to adam. their full length, "into inferno", was hands down the best thing to come out in 2013. it was so mean. so angry. and so fucking perfect. its a dual sledgehammer wielding maniac running around an antique store. smashing everything and laughing and shouting obscenities. its nails playing a little slower and longer. and better. its been a long wait for new material but its so worth it. these 2 tracks just continue windmilling those sledgehammers around. this right here is why we love hardcore.
art of burning water have been around for 10 years or so now started off as a kind of mathy sludge band similar to keelhaul or meatjack and slowly over the years have gone more in the crust direction. adding in some slight grind and powerviolence elements along the way. they've definitely gotten better with time. not to say the older stuff was bad. not by any stretch. I just prefer the later recordings. their 3 tracks here are different take on hardcore but every bit as effective as the harrowed side. this 7" drops on Monday so prepare yourselves. and hide your valuables.

FINALLY... You can now pre-order the 'Into Inferno' LP by Harrowed. I've been waiting for this ever since they announced they were recording for it about a year ago. I was blown away by their demo tape, and I knew some of the members used to be in Santa Karla. So, I was pretty confident that this LP was going to be a beast. After hearing a preview track and then hearing the whole thing streaming, it looks like I was right. In a year that has brought countless amazing releases, 'Into Inferno' still has my vote for album of the year. I highly suggest that you get this one, it's a dual-release by UK labels Feast Of Tentacles & Destructive Nature. Plus, you get a free patch if you pre-order. It doesn't look like Destructive Nature has their pre-order set up quite yet, but you can always email them for more info. Otherwise, order it and stream the album below.

Spawning from the ashes of Santa Karla, along with Unholy Majesty, is Kent's HARROWED. As you can tell by my profile pic at the top right of this page, I like this band. A LOT. As Unholy Majesty has leaned towards a punk/metal approach, Harrowed has continued and expanded on the path that Santa Karla was headed towards, creating the ideal mixture of hardcore and crust. Full of intensity & ferocity, you can hear the band's potential in their 2 song demo cassette. And in every picture or video i've seen, it looks like the band is always just one step away from literally shoving their music down your throat. They've streamed one track from their LP that is set to be released any day now, and it doesn't disappoint, confirming it to be my most anticipated release this year, by far. Check them out. Now.
