Dawn Ray'd is a three piece band from Northern England who formed in
2016, from the looks of things. Dawn Ray'd play a bleak, raw, and
oppressive style of black metal and doom. Musically, Dawn Ray'd can be
loosely compared to bands such as Barghest, Black September, Mutilation
Rites, and Churchburn. Since forming in 2016, Dawn Ray'd have released a six song LP titled A Thorn, A Blight in July of 2016. An Unlawful Assembly is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via Halo Of Flies and Prosthetic records on October 2nd, 2017. To be honest, Dawn Ray'd's new album actually threw me for a look in regards to the political nature of the album's lyrical content. An Unlawful Assembly sends a message of a highly politicized anti-fascist message, which definitely adds to the album's sheer and concise brutality. With that being said, An Unlawful Assembly comes at a perfect time when our nation and the world as a whole seems to be devolving into hate driven chaos. Overall, An Unlawful Assembly is probably one of the best black metal albums that I've heard all year. Highly recommended! Enjoy!
