Anthesis / Botfly / Cell Press / Greber-4 Way Split LP (2021)

Country: Canada
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Grindcore, Metal, Sludge, Noise Rock
Label: No Funeral Records
Tracks: 10
Length: 28.40
'

Here's a killer four way split featuring new material from New Brunswick's Anthesis, Montreal, Quebec's Cell Press, Cambridge, Ontario's Greber, and Halifax, Nova Scotia's Botfly.  A lot of these bands don't need any introduction to readers of the blog, because most have been covered in previous reviews in the distant past.  This killer 4-way split features new material from all four bands, and each band in their own right should be checked out to fully appreciate.  All four bands on this split run the gamut of underground heavy music including hardcore, punk, grindcore, metal, sludge, and noise rock.  For the sake of being brief and also due to 4-way splits being a pain in the ass to review, I'll keep this review short and let the music speak for itself.  This amazing split was released via No Funeral records on June 18th, 2021.  Overall, this split makes for a kick-ass listen and definitely should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

(U.S.) Drug Church-Tawny 12" (2021)

Country: USA
Genre: Post Hardcore, Punk, Indie Rock
Label: Pure Noise Records
Tracks: 4
Length: 10.40'

Drug Church is a five piece band from Albany, NY who formed in the spring of 2011.  Drug Church features members of Self Defense Family, which for most of you, is pretty much a household name in the punk/hardcore scene at this point.  The thing I love most about Drug Church is that they pretty much carry the torch that was originally ignited by End Of The Year before they morphed into Self Defense Family, meaning that Drug Church hits the frenetic, witty, snotty, and sarcastic spectrum of punk that originally made End Of A Year so endearing to me.  With that said, that description pretty much only scratches the surface of describing Drug Church's sound.  Drug Church also adds a healthy dose of dark punk, post hardcore, and indie rock that gives nods to bands such as Jawbreaker, Quicksand, Seaweed, and other like-minded bands.  Since forming in 2011, Drug Church have released a self-titled demo in Mach of 2011, a self-titled EP in July of 2012, a ten song LP titled Paul Walker in July of 2013, a five song EP titled Swell in February of 2015,  an eleven song LP titled Hit Your Head in October of 2015, and a ten song LP titled Cheer in November of 2018.  Tawny is the band's latest EP, which was released via Pure Noise Records on June25th, 2021.   On Tawny, Drug Church offer up four tracks of witty, sarcastic, and snotty post hardcore, punk, and indie rock.   Overall, Tawny makes for an awesome listen and definitely should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!
