(U.S.) Drug Church-Hit Your Head LP (2015)

Country: USA
Genre: Post Hardcore, Punk, Indie Rock
Label: No Sleep
Tracks: 11
Length: 23.0'

Drug Church is a five piece band from Albany, NY who formed in the spring of 2011.  Drug Church features members of Self Defense Family, which for most of you, is pretty much a household name in the punk/hardcore scene at this point.  The thing I love most about Drug Church is that they pretty much carry the torch that was originally ignited by End Of The Year before they morphed into Self Defense Family, meaning that Drug Church hits the frenetic, witty, snotty, and sarcastic spectrum of punk that originally made End Of A Year so endearing to me.  With that said, that description pretty much only scratches the surface of describing Drug Church's sound.  Drug Church also adds a healthy dose of dark punk, post hardcore, and indie rock that gives nods to bands such as Jawbreaker, Quicksand, Seaweed, and other like-minded bands.  Hit Your Head is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via No Sleep Records on October 30th 2015 and also released on vinyl on January 1st 2016.  On Hit Your Head, Drug Church offer up eleven tracks of witty, sarcastic, and snotty post hardcore, punk, and indie rock.  Hit Your Head totally resonates with me on so many levels, that it's scary.  Hit Your Head does two things for me: It makes me realize how shitty things can be for people, simultaneously makes me want to check myself into rehab, yet gives me enough hope to realize that my futile existence is worthwhile if I surround myself with the right people and enough beer to keep my mind numb.  Overall, Hit Your Head is probably one of the best albums of 2015.  Don't sleep on this one.

Foreign Tongues are a five piece band from New Hampshire and Massachusetts who formed in December of 2011.  Foreign Tongues play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of punk, emo, indie rock, and grunge within their sound.  Musically, Foreign Tongues can be said to be influenced by bands such as Hum, Dinosaur Jr, and Echo And Bunnymen.  Since their inception in 2011, Foreign Tongues have released a split 7" with  Ghost Thrower in December of 2012, a five song EP titled Glue in April of 2013, a two song 7" titled Sweet Empathy Leaving Me in April of 2014, and a split 12" with The Felix Culpa in August of 2014.  Fragile, As Said Before is Foreign Tongues' latest full-length LP, which was released via No Sleep records on July 24th, 2015.  On their latest full-length, Foreign Tongues offer up eleven tracks of somber, fuzzed-out, and hazy sounding tracks of punk, emo, indie rock, and grunge.  Overall, Fragile, As Said Before is an amazing album that's an absolute must listen for fans of Cloakroom, Creepoid, Superheaven, newer Title Fight, and Estates.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

(U.S.) Puig Destroyer-S/T LP (2014)

Country: USA
Genre: Hardcore, Punk, Grindcore, Powerviolence

Label: No Sleep
Tracks: 20
Length: 24.0'

Puig Destroyer is a "virtual" four piece band from various locations in the US including California and Chicago.  Puig Destroyer formed in early 2013 from the looks of things and get their name from Los Angeles Dodgers’ All-Star outfielder Yasiel Puig .  Puig Destroyer features Riley Breckenridge of Thrice, Ian Miller from Kowloon Walled City, Mike Minnick of Curl Up and Die fame, and Jon Howell from Kowloon Walled City.  Together these four dudes have created an insanely heavy band that seamlessly melds elements of hardcore, punk, grindcore, and powerviolence within their sound.  All Puig Destroyer's songs draw inspiration from baseball, which puts a refreshing spin on the band's sound in style.  Since their inception in 2013, Puig Destroyer have released a six song self-titled EP in July of 2013, which was released via The Ghost Is Clear records self-released and a second EP titled Wait For Spring in November of 2013.  This is the Puig Destroyer's latest self-titled full-length LP.  On their latest LP, Puig Destroyer destroy twenty songs in about 24 minutes, which results in a brutal and tight as fuck listen.  This album was originally released via No Sleep records on September 20th, 2014.  This album was also given the repress treatment for national record store day last weekend.  I was fortunate enough to snag a copy of the deluxe reissue and let me just say that the album and cover layout look amazing.  Head over to the No Sleep webstore.  You might be lucky and score yourself a leftover copy of the RSD repress.  Overall, this album rips beyond belief.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!
