THE PLAGUE - Demo

THE PLAGUE    ☼    BANDCAMP

I found this 3-song demo by this band and it's pretty damn good. But it's annoying at the same time because I can't find anything out about them. They are on a label called Tombs In The Valley based in the UK, but that label's web and Facebook links are broken. Not to mention there are about 150 bands called The Plague on Facebook. If you know anything about this band, please leave the info in a comment.

As far as the music, like I said, it's pretty damn good. Very dark and very metallic. Sort of reminds me of Death Breath, Struck By Lightning or Skin Like Iron. So, if you dig bands like that or stuff that leans towards the dirty, metal side of hardcore, you might like this.

LODGES - Walking On Hands And Knees

LODGES    ☼    FACEBOOK    BANDCAMP   TWITTER

Swarm Of Nails is a label that is home to a shitload of amazing bands such as Anorak, Heksed, Nesseria, & Young And In The Way. Continuing that tradition is the new band, Lodges, who were born in Paris from the ashes of their previous band, Donkey Punch. Even with only 6 songs, their upcoming one-sided LP is easily one of the most solid releases this year. If you're a fan of Trap Them, Lewd Acts, Catharsis, Cursed, Converge or Gaza, you'll want to check this out.

SWINE - Self Titled

SWINE    ☼    FACEBOOK    BANDCAMP

Swine, from Sydney, Australia, formed in late 2011, with a "singer" set on sludge punk, a monstrous drummer pounding in some southern metal/hardcore elements, a guitarist who's musical advice is always "faster, with more shouting" and a Bass player caught in a strange Danzig/Hank III love triangle. Laden with feedback (to cover the fuck ups) and balls out intensity. Throw in the occasional groove for good measure and you've got and you've got yourself a hardcore punk band "too rowdy to play their instruments" with only the slightest chance of a half-time breakdown and no chance of any 808 drops.

They just released their 13-song debut album, and if you're a fan of The Bronx, Obliterations, The Chariot or Norma Jean, you need to get it. They are strong believers in the "name your price" model, so since they funded this album themselves, you should head over to their Bandcamp page and give them some $$$ if you like it. This is about the most "punk rock" thing you'll see on this blog but I stand behind it. This is the way punk should sound. Plus, any band with a song titled "Die Hipster Die" is OK in my book.

CURSED II Vinyl Reissue Confirmed

REJOICE! Straight from Deathwish Inc's Facebook page...
"Coming in early 2014, the vinyl reissue of "Two" from Cursed on Deathwish (artwork below). This new superior version of "Two" was manufactured using brand new pressing plates, making the release sound more monstrous than ever before. All of it presented in a gatefold jacket with revamped artwork and packaging.
This is the second in a series of singular represses of the entire Cursed full length catalog from Deathwish ("One" is now available). Cursed "Two" and "Three" albums were originally released by the defunct Goodfellow label, and are under exclusive license to Deathwish from Sonic Unyon Distribution.

A final limited box set of all three albums and a book of Cursed related material by Chris Colohan will be released later down the road via a partnership of Deathwish and Colohan's own label, High Anxiety.

KHAN - The Plague

KHAN    ☼    FACEBOOK    BANDCAMP

Born in the summer of 2011 at the Quebec bar "Le bateau de nuit", Khan recorded their first LP in March 2012. I've been meaning to mention them for a long while now but they just got lost in the barrage of great releases lately. The Plague is a 9-song roller coaster ride of fast-paced crust punk with a rhythm section oozing out the unmistakable sound of d-beat. Think of Throats meets Cursed. You can still get the LP from Toys Of Disharmony and they'll have 2 new songs on an upcoming 4 x 7" boxset on Doomsday Machine Records.

RISING CRUST - Demo

RISING CRUST    ☼    FACEBOOK    BANDCAMP

I stumbled across this demo for Toronto's Rising Crust and half-expected it to be just another terrible joke band about some random food item. But holy shit this is a great demo! It's 6 songs of demolishing hardcore and the fucking demo cover image is a fucking inverted cross made of fucking pepperoni pizza! They've got my attention.

BAPTISTS - Live on KEXP 90.3 FM [VIDEO]

A few months ago, Canada's Baptists did a live studio session on KEXP. You can download the audio of it here, if you haven't done so already. And today, KEXP uploaded a video of the full performance on YouTube. This band had one of the best albums of the year, and pretty much every song from that LP is played during this session. Very cool too see video of this...
