Ratstab-One Sided Flexi 7" (2017)

Happy Record Store Day everyone!  National record store day started ten ears ago tomorrow and started as a movement to support mom and pop brick and mortar record shops throughout the country who were essentially a dying breed almost a decade ago.  Unfortunately this movement has gone commercial over the years to the point where people are now paying top dollar for releases that have essentially lost sight of the spirit of the day, which was to get people off their asses, off their computers, and into actual shops to purchase vinyl, cassettes, and what not.  Paul from Tor Johnson reached out to me and expressed similar beliefs and asked me to do a brief piece on a one off release he will be putting out tomorrow as a way to promote his label and national record store day.  I have the pleasure to reveal that he will be releasing the latest 7" from Ratstab.  Ratstab is a Providence, RI based band featuring members of Suffering Bastard, Dropdead, and Rampant Decay.  Ratstab play a vicious and blistering style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, d-beat, and screamo within their sound.  The 7" itself is a one sided clear square 7" with silk screen b-side and silk-screened mylar sleeves.  The 7" is limited to 55 copies and will be available at local stores in Providence RI and MA record shops tomorrow.  From the looks of things, this bad boy is going to be amazing.  Hopefully Paul will allow me to throw the track up on the blog after the weekend is over.  If you live in the area, Get on this!

Raw Blow is a four piece band from Boston, MA who formed in early 2013, from the looks of things.  Raw Blow features members of Now Denial, Furnace, Bravo Fucking Bravo, and Luau, so going on that alone, you know you're in for something special.  Raw Blow play a gritty and somewhat melodic style of music that incorporates elements of punk, gruinge, and noise rock within their sound.  Musically, Raw Blow can be said to be influenced by bands such as Hot Snakes, Obits, Nirvana, Young Livers, and Mouthbreather.  Slow Choke is the band's debut five song EP, which was released as a limited edition tour cassette in October of 2014.  Slow Choke features five tracks of discordant, gritty, and at times, melodic sounding punk, grunge, and noise rock.  Slow Choke is slated for release in 7" format via Tor Johnson records on January 23rd, 2016.  Overall, Slow Choke is a killer 7" and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Late Bloomer is a three piece band from Charlotte, North Carolina who formed in 2012.  Late Bloomer play a killer style of punk, grunge, and 90's influenced indie/alt. rock.  Musically, Late Bloomer can be said to be influenced by bands such as Husker Du, Knapsack, Jawbreaker, Dinosaur Jr. and can be compared to more modern bands such as Old Growth, Big Eyes, California X, and Sneeze.  Since their inception in 2012, Late Bloomer have released a four song demo in March of 2012, a ten song self-titled LP in May of 2013, and a split 7" with Old Flings in October of 2013.  Things Change is Late Bloomer's latest full-length LP, which was released via Tor Johnson records on July 1st, 2014.  On Things Change, Late Bloomer offer up nine tracks of energetic and catchy as hell sounding punk, grunge, and indie rock.  Overall, Things Change is a killer LP that should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Lunglust is a five piece band from Boston, Ma who formed in 2010.  Lunglust features former members of Phantom Glue, so going on that alone, you know you're in for something truly amazing.  Lunglust play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of hardcore, punk, and crust within their sound.  Musically, Lunglust can be said to be influenced by bands such as Furnace, Relics, Ghostlimb, and Capsule.  Since their inception in 2010, Lunglust have released a split 7" with Western Syndrome in November of 2011.  As Guilt Collects Dust is the band's latest three track 7", which was released via Tor Johnson records on November 26th, 2014.  On their latest release, Lunglust offer up three tracks of hardcore, punk, and crust that's an absolute must listen for fans of Ghostlimb, Tempest, Baptists, and other like-minded bands.  Overall, As Guilt Collects Dust is a killer EP and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!

Aneurysm is a five piece band from Boston, Massachusetts who formed in early 2014, from the looks of things.  Aneurysm play a killer style of hardcore and punk with a strong rock and roll foundation and vibe.  Musically, Aneurysm can be said to be influenced by bands such as Swiz, Brainbanger, Drive Like Jehu, Young Livers, Hot Snakes, and Cloak/Dagger.  Since their inception in 2011, Aneurysm have released a five song demo in October of 2014, a three song demo recorded at Dead Air Studios in July of 2015, and a four song EP titled Stop This Ride in September of 2015.  Veronica is Aneurysm's latest three song  7", which was released via Tor Johnson records on October 23rd, 2015.  On their latest three song 7", Aneurysm offer up three tracks of discordant and tense sounding hardcore that's an absolute must listen for fans of Drive Like Jehu, Brainbanger, Swiz, and Young Livers.  Overall, Veronica is a killer 7" and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Wow, this band really surprised the hell out of me.  Blood Pheasant is a four piece band from Providence, Rhode Island who formed in May of 2012. Blood Pheasant features current and former members of weak teeth, The Two Funerals, Best Practices and Jesuscentric.  Blood Pheasant play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of doom, folk, grunge, and post metal within their sound.  Musically, Blood Pheasant can be said to be influenced by bands such as Pygmy Lush, Young Widows, Des Ark, Chelsea Wolf, and Sun Kil Moon.  Blood Pheasant's sound is dark, hauntingly beautiful, eerie, and at times really heavy and dirty.  Traum is Blood Pheasant's debut full-length LP, which was released via Tor Johnson records on May 1st, 2014.  Traum features nine tracks of dark and gloomy sounding doom, folk, grunge, doom, and post metal.  Overall, Traum is an incredible LP and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!
