The Catalyst is a four piece band from Richmond, Virginia who formed in 2006.  The Catalyst play a killer style of music that incorporates elements of post hardcore, punk. grunge, sludge, and noise rock within their sound.  Musically, The Catalyst can be said to be influenced by bands such as Karp, Jesus Lizard, Botch, Nirvana, and Pg. 99.  Since their inception, The Catalyst have released a split LP with Mass Movement of The Moth in June of 2006, a four song EP titled Marianas Trench in April of 2007, a split 7" with Brainworms in July 0f 2007, a thirteen song LP titled Marianas Trench + 7, compiling the bands first three releases in April of 2008, an eleven song LP titled Swallow Your Teeth in July of 2009, and a ten song LP titled Voyager in September of 2012.  Freak Out The Squares is The Catalyst's debut nine song demo, which was released on cassette via Robotic Empire records back in June of 2006.  I've been a long time fan of The Catalyst and was psyched to see these tracks made available again.  On Freak Out The Squares, The Catalyst offer up nine tracks of sludgy and noise damaged post hardcore.  Overall, Freak Out The Squares is a killer demo and should not be missed.  Enjoy!
