Unyth - Fatal Exception Error

Unyth out of Charlotte play grindnoise and powerviolence with a harsh noise edge that doesn't mess around. Their new 4-track album Fatal Exception Error came out early on Bandcamp and clocks in at just under 4 minutes total—three tracks under 32 seconds and one 3-minute closer called "Faceless Hivemind." It's the same brutal noisegrind they've been doing since Scolding Visions in 2023. Short, aggressive, unpolished in the best way.

New Band To Me: JOY

 

Here we go with the next installment of bands that are new(ish) to me. I would assume a lot of you guys already know who JOY is, but I just heard them for the first time late last year after Spotify "suggested" them to me. Instead of giving me something I've heard a million times before, it actually gave me this fucking amazing band. Unfortunately they called it quits in April of 2022, which really sucks. But, they did leave us with 3 killer releases, see below. Anyway, Joy was a 4-piece hailing from Raleigh, North Carolina and began in 2015. Similar to other North Carolina bands like Funeral Chic and Young And In The Way, Joy produced a crushing, catchy, blackened brand of hardcore which is right up my alley. This is basically a perfect band for me sonically, I'm super bummed they aren't together anymore. Three of the four members did start a new band in 2023 called Natural End and they have a free EP up on Bandcamp (also below), but unfortunately it's just not for me. They are more of a typical 80's hardcore punk style, with none of the dark magic of JOY. Oh well. 

If anyone has any good recommendations or know of any other bands in the vein of Joy, let me know.

Ends Of Sanity is a band from North Carolina, who formed in 2020.  Ends Of Sanity features members of Magnitude, Life's Question, Dwell, and Detriment.  Ends Of Sanity play a killer style of metallic hardcore/punk.  Musically, Ends Of Sanity can be loosely be compared to bands such as Fuming Mouth, Axis, Blistered, and other like-minded bands.  This is the band's debut EP, which was released via Daze and New Morality Zine records on January 27th, 2021.  On their self-titled debut Ends Of Sanity offer up five tracks of vicious and brutal as fuck sounding hardcore, punk, and metal.  Overall, Ends Of Sanity debut EP makes for an awesome listen and definitely should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Weedeater is a three piece band from Wilmington, North Carolina who formed in 1998.  Weedeater features members of Buzzoven, so going on that alone, you know you're in for something truly special.  Weedeater play a raw and ugly style of music that incorporates elements of doom, metal, sludge, and stoner metal within their sound,  Musically, Weedeater can be loosely compared to bands such as Eyehategod, Come To Grief, Junior Bruce, Sleep, and other like-minded bands.  Since forming in 1998, Weedeater have released a ten song LP titled Sixteen Tons in March of 2014, a ten song LP titled And Justice For Y'All in March of 2014, a nine song LP titled Good Luck And Godspeed in April Of 2014, a ten song LP titled Jason...The Dragon in December of 2014, and a ten song LP titled Goliathan in May of 2015.  Over the course of four albums, Weedeater offer up amazing raw and ugly swampy, sludgy doom and stoner metal.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!  Weedeater will be releasing a new full-length LP later this year, which is definitely an album that I'm really looking forward to!
