Kowloon Walled City / Shallow North Dakota - Toronto 5/31/2025

As mentioned in my previous post (sorry it's been so long), Kowloon Walled City played a cover set of Shallow North Dakota songs at this year's Prepare The Ground fest in Toronto. Shallow ND hailed from Hamilton, Ontario and were around from 1993-2005, putting out 3 killer albums (please check these out). They briefly reunited in 2018 until 2019, and unfortunately the singer/drummer Tony Jacome passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2021. Once you listen to Shallow ND, you'll instantly know why Kowloon Walled City was chosen to do this set. KWC was joined by 4 different guest vocalists: Rachel Jones (Jacome), Sean Arsenian (Cell Press), Trez Lanz (Mares Of Thrace) & Skot Hamilton (KEN Mode).

I recorded the audio from this set on a shitty field recorder, so you may think the quality is awful, but at least it exists, I'll drop a download link for it. Kowloon Walled City is a four piece band from San Francisco, CA who formed in 2008.  Kowloon Walled City play an amazing style of music that incorporates elements of post hardcore, punk, sludge, and noise rock within their sound.  Since their inception in 2008, Kowloon Walled City have released a five song EP titled Turk Street in September of 2008, an eight song LP titled Gambling On The Richter Scale in September of 2009, a three-way split LP with Ladder Devils and Fight Amp in September of 2010, a full length LP titled Container Ships in December of 2012, a split 7" with Thou in 2013, a split 7" with Batillus in 2014,  a seven song LP titled Grievances in October of 2015, and most recently a three-way split 12" with Shallow North Dakota and Ken Mode.  Piecework is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via Neurot recordings on October 8th, 2021.  On Piecework, Kowloon Walled City offer up seven new tracks of sludgy and noise damaged post hardcore.  Overall, Piecework is an amazing album and will most likely be my favorite album of the year.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!

Here's a killer RSD split 7" featuring covers by Oakland, CA's Kowloon Walled City, Los Angeles CA's Dangers, Baton Rogue, LA's Thou, and Lingua Ignota.  This 7" is a benefit for Sisters In Christ record store on Magazine Street in New Orleans.  On this compilation Kowloon Walled City cover Gillian Welch's The Way It Will Be, Dangers cover Hot Snakes This Mystic Decade, Thou cover Cower's Constantly, and Lingua Ignota cover Iron Lung's Sexless//No Sex.  This split 7" was released via Sisters In Christ records on August 6th, 2019.  Overall, this is a killer split 7" and definitely should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!
