Self Defense Family is a revolving collective of musicians who's founding members started off by playing in upstate NY's End Of A Year back in 2004.  Self Defense Family play an unmistakably honest and genuine style of music that's unique and really difficult to pigeonhole or describe.  Self Defense Family's sound has a foundation in hardcore and punk, but after that, it's pretty much a blank slate when it comes to describing the band's sound.  Since re-branding themselves as Self Defense Family, the band has released a prolific amount of material that includes 6 7", multiple splits, and two full-length LPs.  Superior is Self Defense Family's latest four song EP, which was released via Run For Cover Records on February 9th, 2016.  On Superior, Self Defense Family offer up four tracks of dark and brooding post hardcore that's been said to be influenced by bands such as Killing Joke, Death In June, and Christan Death.  I'm not sure if I'd agree with that comparison, but what I do know is that Superior makes for a great listen and should not be missed.  Highly recommended!  Enjoy!
