I've been really looking forward to doing this review seeing that Hexis has grown to be one of the best and heaviest bands to come out in the blackened metallic hardcore scene over the past seven years. Hexis is a four piece band from Copenhagen, Denmark who formed in 2010. Hexis play a dark, ominous, and oppressive style of music that mixes elements of hardcore, punk, doom, and raw black metal within their sound. Since forming in 2010, Hexis have released a seven song LP titled XI in January of 2012, a split 7" with Redwood in 2013, a thirteen song LP titled Abalam in January of 2014, a split 10" with Primitive Man in May of 2014, and a split with This Gift Is A Curse in January of 2015. Tando Ashanti is the band's latest full-length LP, which was released via Halo Of Flies and Alerta Antifascista records on April 14th, 2017. Tando Ashanti is truly an exercise in sheer brutality as far as I'm, concerned. Tando Ashanti features eleven songs of burgeoning, oppressive, and at times almost hypnotic sounding black metal and doom tinged hardcore. Tando Ashanti has a strong undercurrent of seething and menacing rage, which makes Hexis stand out in a scene for black metal tinged hardcore bands are pretty common. Overall, Tando Ashanti makes for an amazing listen and has been my favorite release of 2017 so far. Seriously, my words can do this album justice. Highly recommended! Enjoy!
