First, I apologize for my lack of presence and posts here lately. Been pretty out of it and just haven't felt up to it, but I'm trying. Haven't seen this one posted here yet and it seems to be flying under the radar, which is criminal because Depravation is one of my favorite bands. I always get nostalgic as well when I hear them, as they were one of the first bands I ever posted here way back in 2013. This new LP came out a few weeks ago and I am happy to say that it's everything that I have come to expect from this band. That amazing Germanic crust production and atmosphere, that can seemingly only be attained by bands spawned by Deutschland, is ever-present here. The songs on this record all sound very familiar to me but new and fresh at the same time. Depravation has always been able to conjure a haunting and deeply dark feeling with their music. One could compare them to Svffer, Funeral Chic, Ancst & Siberian Hell Sounds. But they definitely have their own signature, something I can't quite describe. It's something in the way the guitarist plays the chords, there's always this very unique, very strange, very minor sound to them. I don't know if that makes sense but it's in everything they do and I love it. Whatever it is, it sounds fucking gothic and fucking evil, and it all makes perfect sense, since the dictionary definition of depravation is to make morally bad or evil; vitiate; corrupt. I think it goes without saying that this one is highly recommended! Stay safe everyone!

DEPRAVATION // ANCST - Split 7" (2018)

Hey everyone, wanted to post about this split since it is now officially streaming and available for purchase. This record is an unholy union of two of Germany's finest, Depravation and Ancst. Both of these bands started putting out music at the same time and both have perfected the art of Blackened Death Crust.

Depravation is especially close to my heart as I fell in love with their debut I​:​PRAEDICTVM, which led them to be one of the very first things I ever wrote about on this blog back in 2013. They are thankfully back again with 2 songs on this split and it marks the first time they have recorded as a 4-piece and also the first time with German lyrics. Their first song, Moloch, is everything I expect to hear from them. A smothering, pitch black wall of riffs featuring their signature scathing vocals and echoing blast beats. Cotard follows it up on a grander scale, offering up the same sense of impending dread, but this time soaked in hypnotizing atmospherics that drag you in and pull you down. The Ancst side holds up well too, giving you more of a technical death metal feel and less of a blackened gut punch, but that's something you should be used to if you are a fan of theirs. 

Overall I would say that anyone who follows this blog should check this out or pick up one of the records. The 100 gold copies are gone I believe but the black vinyl limited to 400 is still around. You can stream the record in full above from Bandcamp and it should be on Spotify etc in a few days. I haven't seen it show up to download yet but you know that's only a matter of time. Until then, buy it or stream the shit out of this.

OK so I am really thrilled to be posting about a new release from Gießen, Germany's Depravation as we haven't heard anything from them since 2014. This band always makes me feel nostalgic for the early days of this blog. I had been obsessed with their first release, I​:​PRAEDICTVM for a while, and then their LP, II​:​MALEDICTVM came out right around the same time I started this blog, so they were one of the very first bands I talked about in the first month of this site's existence. They also later released a split with another killer band, Slowly We Rot. If you're not familiar, Depravation is such a unique sounding band. They manage to exist in today's world of hardcore but at the same time are able to incorporate elements of old school death metal & European thrash into their music unlike anyone else. Lots of intricate guitar work that manages to sound simple and just plain evil. Venomous vocals that sound like they are coming for your soul. And an unending supply of contagious riffs. Needless to say, this is one of my favorite bands and they were definitely one of the inspirations for me starting this blog in the first place.

And now, after a year and a half of people leaving the band and life just generally getting in the way, the band is back on track. This brand new EP is 4 songs that clock in at over 16 minutes. It's being released as a one-sided LP with a killer silkscreen on the backside (see above). And while it sounds like the band has gone through some changes, I'm happy to say that this still definitely sounds like the Depravation that I know and love. Everything you could want in a Black Metal Hardcore band is here on display: Creepy intros, breakneck thrash, punishing headbanging jam sessions, desperate & dark atmospherics and overall, just a killer, unmistakebly German, Hardcore EP. And that my friends, is a good thing. I hope you guys like this as much as I do, and I hope there is more to come from this band. Enjoy.

Is it too early to call "release of the year"? Holy smokes this split cassette between Depravation & Slowly We Rot is fucking blistering. I've mentioned Depravation before, they are one of my faves, blacker than black dark metallic hardcore at it's best. And newcomers Slowly We Rot are definitely deserving of being on the B-side of this tape. The band features the former guitarist from one my absolute favorites, Worms Feed, and their 2 songs will crush you, if the A-side didn't manage to do that already. The cassette comes out on August 1st and is a co-release between Skin And Bones Records and Dark Omen Records.

More death and destruction from Germany. Depravation, from Gießen, formed in December 2011 and bring some of the most raw, brutal and devastating dark hardcore to your undeserving ears. The first I heard of these guys was their demo I​:​PRAEDICTVM released in June 2012. Originally intended to be pressed on vinyl, it was instead released as a cassette. The demo contained 3 tracks, with the last one serving as more of an outro. Despite the somewhat crude recording quality, you could hear something special going on here. Evil and wretched, these 2 songs of metallic hardcore left you wanting more. Limited to 50 copies and then later on CD, these have all been sold out, but you can still grab them below or at their Bandcamp page.

Thankfully they have gone on to record a full length LP, II​:​MALEDICTVM, with an imminent release. There are only 300 copies being pressed so i suggest you click the Merch link above and reserve your copy. It's also streaming on their Bandcamp page and some lower quality downloads have been floating around as well. The LP contains 7 skull-crushing songs along with a haunting Intro & Outro. The production value on this record is vastly improved over the demo, but that's not to say this is an over-produced record. It is as nasty, filthy and vile as you could ever want. Angry, pissed off vocals, walls of guitars and doom-inducing drums that will make your neck snap when the double-bass kicks in. I can't recommend them enough.
