(U.S.) Barghest/Teeth-Split Cassette (2016)

Country: USA
Genre: Black Metal, Doom, Sludge

Label: GrimCVLT
Tracks: 5
Length: 44.0'

Barghest have emerged from the murky waters of the Mississippi River with the goal of unleashing strife and hate upon the landscape. These fours songs contain a caustic mix of early Black Metal tempered with the undying mentality and drive of Punk. With a growing reputation in tow, these Baton Rouge, LA natives look to further drive the stake of disdain and outright disgust for humanity into it’s heart. Ripe with blast beats that act as a tornado of razor blades and vocals that peel the paint off walls, and accompanied by chaotic guitars that beckon one to step foot in their moss-covered, humidity-choked crypt. On the other side of the spectrum dwells the sonic abomination known as TEETH, a witches cauldron of Death Metal, Black Metal and Doom. As a result of this repugnant alchemist's mixture of sound, TEETH have swirled these influences together, thus creating one thing: pure sonic devastation. These California natives have crafted a tapestry that further expands upon their maligned and highly regarded first release, Unremittance. This is a stunning composite of ideas wrapped tightly together and which operate like muscle fibers. (Press Note)

LOG DRIVER - Extinction Is Forever (2016)

GENRE: Blackened Grindcore, Crust, Metal, Hardcore
FFO: Hierophant, Torch Runner, Full Of Hell, Dead In The Dirt

Over the years of trolling Bandcamp to find cool new music, I've become increasingly numb by the jackassery that I see and hear, night in and night out. I honestly can't believe that some of these bands actually offer their wretched filth up to the public. And let's not even get started about band names or album covers, I don't want to have a stroke tonight. But, every once in a while, you will strike fucking gold. That recently happened to me in the form of this little nugget from Log Driver. Holy. Fucking. Shit. This is so good. And that's me saying this after I've binged on the new Trap Them all day, so you know this is serious. Log Driver is a new creation out of Mansfield, Connecticut from brothers Dave & Matt Kaminsky, who have always been in bands together, such as Stone Healer and Autolatry. While those bands have a decidedly more metal feel to them, the theme and lyrics for Log Driver stay just as serious while branching into more extreme, grindcore territory. Log Driver is self-described as Deforestation-core, and no this is not a joke as Matt, the drummer, works in sustainable farming. Therefore these issues have become the main theme of the band. Musically, what can I say. Do you remember back when Young And In The Way were REALLY good? Well, this is every bit as good as that. A lot of comparisons can also be made to the recent Funeral Chic LP if you happened to catch that. Honest, dirty, creative and catchy is how I'd describe these 4 songs. Each track is over 2 1/2 minutes so you get tons of cool progression and I guarantee you will not be bored. It's also worth noting that the songs add up to 13 minutes exactly. Very metal. Overall, this is highly recommended. I've listened to this MANY times already and the only bad thing I can say about it is that I wish there were more songs. Luckily, more recording for this band is on the horizon. They were cool enough to let me host a download here, but feel free to visit their Bandcamp page to support them. Hope you guys dig this as much as I do.

CHOLERA - Final Recordings EP

GENRE: Grindcore, Hardcore, Metal, Noise, Crust

We've got a special treat for you today, lads. A mystery EP from Durham, UK's Cholera. These blistering four tracks have been recorded for over 2 years but may or may not ever see a physical release due to the band's current state of hibernation. However, they were kind enough to share this with us because they know everyone here will appreciate it, and for that I thank them. Cholera has been around since 2012 and has two previous releases. 2012's Egotism is more on the noisy/chaotic side of things, while 2014's Plagiarised Hope marked a turn to straight up raw, nasty, super fast hardcore. It makes sense then that this "new" EP would continue in that vein of bludgeoning, oppressive hardcore that just smothers you with a wall of riffs and noise of the best kind. Also, if you listen close, you can hear guest vocals from Dustin of Funeral Chic on the final track, Opaque. Overall, this may be my favorite stuff from Cholera and it is obviously highly recommended. And, if you find yourself needing more after all of this, you need to check out GEIST as a few members of Cholera are currently playing in that band, who just happened to release a new killer split 7" themselves. Enjoy!

ART OF BURNING WATER - Between Life And Nowhere LP

GENRE: Hardcore, Crust, Noise Punk, Sludge, Metal
FFO: Corrupt Moral Altar, Cowards, Teething, Ravage Ritual

So apparently this album has been out for a little while but it was never properly announced. So, here it is. I'm pissed I didn't know about this in early July because this is a fantastic LP! If you don't know, Art Of Burning Water is a self-described steroided immigrant noise punk trio from the UK, even though they always come across to me as just good metallic crust. They say "Fuck your 1982 d-beat worship. D-beat went to college. This is PhD-beat infused urban heartcore of the worst kind." This band is pretty prolific too, just go check out all of their releases on their Bandcamp page. In fact, their next LP is already recorded, titled The Heart Can Only Take So Much, so be on the lookout for that if you are into this. But for now, check this out immediately because there isn't a bad song on here. Tons of catchy riffs and an abundance of headbanging heaviness. Order the LP from the links below if you so desire.
